Achieve a Whiter, Brighter Smile with Teeth Whitening

Dull or discolored teeth can detract from your entire appearance.  Dr. Brandon Huang offers both take-home and in-office teeth whitening treatments at his Manhattan, NY,office to eliminate stains and dramatically brighten your smile. Our in-office treatment can noticeably whiten your smile in a single visit, whereas the at-home treatment kit allows you to achieve comparable results in the comfort of your own home.

WHAT CAUSES DENTAL DISCOLORATION?

Dental discoloration is a common issue and can be caused by several factors. There are two types of stains that can detract from your smile.

Intrinsic Staining

Intrinsic stains are characterized by the darkening of the dentin (inner structure of the tooth) and can be caused by:

  • Overexposure to fluoride during childhood
  • Trauma to the tooth, such as an injury or infection
  • Medications, such as certain antibiotics

Extrinsic Staining

These stains are more common and occur when the enamel becomes discolored. Certain foods and drinks can yellow or darken the teeth, such as coffee, black tea, red wine, berries, and more. The aging process, tobacco use, and poor oral hygiene can also cause extrinsic stains.

"Dr. Huang offers Philips Zoom!® in-office whitening treatment to lighten your teeth several shades in just one office visit."

Teeth whitening treatments, which contain hydrogen peroxide to break apart discoloration, are only effective against extrinsic stains. However, patients with intrinsic stains can achieve their cosmetic goals with other treatments such as porcelain veneers or dental crowns. Dr. Huang often recommends a total smile makeover to achieve the most striking results.

IN-OFFICE PHILIPS ZOOM!® TREATMENT

At New York Dental Studio, we are proud to offer Philips Zoom!® which can whiten your smile by several shades in one office visit.

This system uses a proprietary LED light to accelerate the whitening process. The whitening gel used in the treatment is safe, fast-acting, and effective.

Before the whitening process, you will have an initial consultation with Dr. Huang to verify your candidacy. Next, your teeth will be professionally cleaned and prepared for the whitening gel. To protect your soft tissue from the bleaching gel, your lips and gums will first be isolated. Dr. Huang will then apply the gel to your teeth and activate it with the LED light. The gel remains on your teeth for 15 minutes and is then removed. It is reapplied after five to ten minutes, and after three or four applications, the desired whitening effect is achieved.

Most patients need only one in-office visit to obtain satisfactory results. However, those with stubborn stains may require an additional treatment.

AT-HOME TREATMENT

We also offer professional-strength at-home teeth whitening treatments which can easily be integrated into your busy schedule. If you choose this option, we will provide you with customized trays to hold the whitening gel against your teeth. These trays can be worn either while you sleep or for a short period each day. The viscous gel will not migrate to the soft tissues in your mouth, and is easy to apply. Dr. Huang will recommend how long you will need to wear the trays, and patients typically achieve their desired results within two weeks.

MAINTAINING YOUR RESULTS

To preserve your newly whitened smile, you should minimize your consumption of foods and beverages that can re-stain your teeth, refrain from tobacco use, and practice good oral hygiene. Patients should also schedule regular dental cleanings and examinations to prevent the recurrence of stains. During these appointments, we can discuss touch-up whitening treatments if needed.
