When it comes to oral health, it’s important to maintain a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, and brush and floss regularly. Receiving regular dental exams is the best way to prevent disease and infection within your teeth, gums, and mouth. New York Dental Studio in Manhattan, New York, understands your dental needs.

How Often Do I Need a Dental Exam?

You need to have regular dental exams to maintain your oral health. We recommend that all healthy adults over 18 visit our dental office in Manhattan twice a year for a thorough dental exam. If you have health issues or dental conditions that need extra care, we may ask you to come in more often.

What to Expect During a Dental Exam at New York Dental Studio

You may be concerned that having a dental exam is painful or otherwise uncomfortable. The truth is, it's a painless procedure, and we do everything we can to make sure you're comfortable throughout. A routine dental examination will look something like this:

  • Medical Questionnaire - You'll be asked some questions about your overall health, medications you take, procedures you've had, and other relevant health information.

  • X-Rays of Your Teeth - The first step in most dental exams is obtaining a full set of x-rays which takes a few minutes.

  • Visual Examination - Your dentist or hygienist will perform a visual inspection of your teeth, gums, and mouth.

  • Oral Cancer Screening - In addition to looking for dental problems, your dentist will check the soft tissues of your mouth and jaw for signs of cancer.

  • Dental Cleaning - Once your oral exam is complete, the dentist or hygienist will perform a dental cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Once complete, your teeth will be polished, and you're almost done.

  • Final Exam - After the dental cleaning is finished, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth again, looking for any spots that were missed or other issues.

What Is the Difference Between a Dental Exam and Dental Cleaning?

As mentioned above, a dental exam involves the dentist looking at your teeth and gums to determine their condition. X-rays are an essential part of an annual dental exam as they show the dentist where there are cavities or other problems. Dental cleanings are generally scheduled simultaneously with your semi-annual dental exam. Both cleanings and dental exams are vital for good oral health.

What Other Services are Available at our New York Dental Office?
